Hollywood did it again... regrettably...

I watched "The Seeker" recently, or "Wintersonnenwende" as it is known in Germany.
Since the book from Susan Cooper is one of my favourites i didn't exspect to be fully pleased by it.
But what Hollywood did to the story is almost a crime. I mean did anyone on the production team actually bother to read the book, or did they just use a rough summary?

In the Original it is the classic story of good vs evil, using subtle signs to indicate both and nicely tied into the real world.
But in "Stupidwood" you apparently have to blow something up to show that someone/something got great power. Has anyone there ever heard of inner strength? Apparently not!

So, there is a lot of useless "BOOM - BANG" in the movie and even Martial Arts. o_O

Here are some more specific examples what actually annoyed me in this movie:

They didn't nail the main character. The funny thing is, it is even mentioned in the movie. In the movie he is selfish and irresponsible, but Will Stanton is the exact opposite of that.

When Will realises that his brother is controlled by the darkness, he starts dealing with his brothers fears and then...
...punches him in the face?

They obviously tried to center the whole heroism thing on Will, since he is the character the young audience will itself identify with, which leaves a bunch of old ones with nothing to do.
They simply don't appear to be the wise entitys they are.
Merriman is Merlin for Gods sake!

Speaking of Merriman...
Merlin using a flail to physically attack an opponent?

The only thing i can live with that they brought the story into more modern times using ipods and videogames to make it more accessible for todays kids.

I pity the writer who adapted the story for the big screen, he is living in a small world.

By the way, why do all the movies in the last couple of years just look black and blue? There are so much more colors to choose from.

Phew! Had to get that of my mind. Thanks for reading, if you got this far. ;)
